About Us: Our Mission
The role of the Center for K–12 Assessment & Performance Management at ETS is to:
- Challenge current testing practices, methodologies and instruments.
- Press for major advances in the testing field to better meet the varied needs of those working with students.
- Engage deeply our nation's educational leaders in the design and development of the “next generation” of K–12 assessment and performance management systems.
The goal of the Center is to stimulate and support improvements in the field of
K–12 assessment. It also strives
to guide local, state and national leaders toward incorporating these improvements in their future comprehensive assessment development work.
The Center will accomplish these goals through the following strategies:
- Creating mechanisms to listen to the needs of educators and policymakers in order to identify the most pressing measurement challenges that must be addressed to create more responsive assessment and performance management systems.
- Bringing together the best minds in the country to debate and identify promising future approaches.
- Commissioning the development of conceptual models of high quality next-generation assessment and performance management systems.
- Openly sharing all products of our Center in order to stimulate and contribute to broad advancements in the field.
Created by Educational Testing Service (ETS) to forward a larger social mission, the Center for K–12 Assessment & Performance Management at ETS has been given the directive to serve as a catalyst and resource for the improvement of measurement and data systems to enhance student achievement.
